Powell Hut, reached from the Holdsworth road end, is the most popular overnight destination in the Tararua Range, sitting on an exposed ridge with panoramic views when the weather cooperates. Jumbo Hut provides a base for the Holdsworth–Jumbo circuit and longer ridge traverses in conditions that can test even experienced trampers. On the south Wairarapa coast, Waikuku Lodge in the Aorangi Forest Park and Te Kopi Homestead near Cape Palliser offer whole-building stays within reach of the seal colony and the Putangirua Pinnacles.
