A real-time availability tracker for Department of Conservation huts in New Zealand.
What We Do
Hut Finder pulls live availability data from the Department of Conservation and shows it on an interactive map, grouped by date. You pick your dates, we show you which huts have beds. Free users see the next 14 days; Pro users see up to 12 months ahead.
Independent Tool: We are not affiliated with DOC. All hut bookings and fees go directly to DOC at doc.govt.nz. We never handle hut payments.
How It Works
Pick your dates
Use the date picker or quick-select buttons (This Weekend, Next Weekend, In a Month) to choose when you want to tramp.
See what's available
The map shows colour-coded markers: green for available, amber for limited (1–3 bunks), and grey for full. The results rail lists huts sorted by bunk count.
Book directly with DOC
Click "Book on DOC ↗" on any hut card to go straight to the official DOC booking page for that specific facility.
Watch full huts (Pro)
If your hut is fully booked, tap the bell icon to set an availability alert. We'll email you the moment a spot opens up.
Data Freshness
Availability is fetched from DOC's systems and cached for up to 2 hours, so there may be a short delay between a booking made on DOC and it appearing here. Always confirm availability on the official DOC website before travelling, especially for bookable huts during peak season.
Hut Finder Pro
The free tier shows 14 days of availability — enough for most weekend trampers. Pro unlocks 12 months of visibility, which is essential for planning Great Walks (Milford, Routeburn, Tongariro, etc.) that open bookings well in advance.
Pro also includes availability alerts: watch any hut for your dates and get an email the moment a spot opens up.

DOC — the Department of Conservation — is New Zealand's government agency responsible for managing national parks, conservation land, and a network of over 950 backcountry huts. Hut Finder specifically tracks the ~160 of these that are bookable directly on the DOC website.
Great Walks
New Zealand's nine Great Walks are the country's most iconic multi-day tramping routes. They require advance booking through DOC and fill up fast — sometimes months ahead. Hut Finder Pro's 12-month window is designed specifically for this planning window.
Privacy & Payments
Pro subscriptions are processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details. Sign-in uses a magic link sent to your email; there are no passwords. We don't sell your data or share it with third parties.
