Hut Finder (dochutfinder.com) is an independent tool for checking real-time availability of Department of Conservation (DOC) huts in New Zealand. We are not affiliated with DOC. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Information We Collect
Email address
If you sign in or subscribe to Hut Finder Pro, we collect your email address to provide sign-in, account, billing and availability-alert services. If you explicitly opt in, we may also send occasional product news, trip-planning tips and offers. Marketing consent is optional, recorded with its source and policy version, and can be withdrawn at any time from your account or an email unsubscribe link.
Device location (optional)
If you grant location permission, your device's coordinates are used to sort huts by distance on the map. Your location is never sent to our servers or stored anywhere.
Payment information
Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Stripe. We never see, receive, or store your card details. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant. See Stripe's Privacy Policy for details.
AI Assistant Connector
You can use Hut Finder from AI assistants such as Claude (by Anthropic) and ChatGPT (by OpenAI) through our official connector. See Use Hut Finder in Claude and ChatGPT for how it works.
What we receive
Only the details of each request the assistant sends us, such as a hut name, dates, region or party size. We never receive or store your conversation with the assistant. To keep the service running we log each request's tool name, the assistant used, whether it was signed in, and timing, but not the details you asked about.
What we share with the assistant
Hut Finder sends the assistant the results you asked for: hut details and availability, and, if you have connected your account, your plan, alert limits and alerts. Anthropic or OpenAI then process that data under their own privacy policies (Anthropic, OpenAI), including keeping it in your chat history. We share nothing with them that you did not request through the connector.
What we store when you connect your account
Signing in through the connector uses OAuth. We store a record of the connection (which assistant, the permissions you approved, and when it was created and last used) and its refresh tokens. Tokens are stored only as one-way hashes, never in readable form. The connection is kept until you disconnect it or it expires after 60 days without use; expired tokens are deleted automatically. Alerts you create from a chat are stored exactly like alerts created on the website. The sign-in flow sets no cookies.
How to disconnect
Open Account → Connected apps on the website and choose Disconnect, or remove Hut Finder in your assistant's settings. Disconnecting revokes the connection's tokens; your account and alerts are unaffected.
How We Use Your Information

Cookies & Tracking
Hut Finder itself does not set any first-party cookies. However, the following third-party services used by the site may set cookies or collect anonymous usage data:
Google AdSense
We display ads from Google AdSense to free users. Google may use cookies and device identifiers to serve personalised ads based on your browsing history. See Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of personalised ads at adssettings.google.com.
Vercel Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated page view data (no personal identifiers, no cross-site tracking). See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
Emails
Our emails are sent through Resend and may record when you open them and which links you click, using a small image and links that pass through links.dochutfinder.com. We use this only to see which emails are useful. Blocking images in your email app stops open tracking. See Resend's Privacy Policy.
Third-Party Services
Hut Finder is built on the following services, each with their own privacy practices:
Supabase — Stores your email address and subscription status. Servers are located in the United States.
Stripe — Processes Pro subscription payments. PCI-DSS Level 1 certified.
Google AdSense — Serves ads to free users.
Vercel — Hosts the application and provides anonymous analytics.
Resend — Sends our emails, including sign-in codes and alerts, and records email opens and link clicks.
Anthropic — Receives the results you request when you use Hut Finder in Claude.
OpenAI — Receives the results you request when you use Hut Finder in ChatGPT.
Data Retention
Your email address is retained for as long as your account or subscription is active. If you cancel your Pro subscription and wish to have your email removed from our systems, contact us at the address below and we will delete it promptly.
AI connector connections and their hashed tokens are kept until you disconnect them or they expire after 60 days without use, and are deleted with your account. One-time authorization codes used while connecting expire after 5 minutes. We do not store conversation content.
Your Rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have the right to:

- ·Request correction or deletion of your personal data
- ·Opt out of personalised advertising (via Google's ad settings)
- ·Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
